She’s also been relatively under-the-radar since the wedding, so it was always going to be a conversation the moment she emerged.

This weekend Taylor was in London for Oli Jacobs and Laura Sisk’s wedding, the second wedding she’s attended since her own wedding, common for a lot of people in their late 20s and 30s. There was one year where I went to something like six weddings in a single summer. Oli and Laura are sound engineers, a power couple in their respective field, and have worked with major popstars on major albums, which is why in addition to Taylor, Sabrina Carpenter, Phoebe Bridgers, and Jack Antonoff, among others in the music industry, were also in attendance.

Taylor was first spotted out for dinner a couple of days before the event in a lavender dress. Then came the pap shots of her at the wedding. So the first thing people were clocking was the wedding ring. And the next discussion point is her hair – apparently it’s the shortest she’s worn it in years, and it looks like how she was styling it during the 1989 era. Since we’re talking about her hair, then, can I say I hate it? I feel unhinged about how it's parted.

Speaking of unhinged, her fanbase is now theorising – because of the hair and also the lilac dress and nails – that these are all clues, and where Taylor is concerned, clues are almost always to do with a new album. Here’s an example of just one person hypothesising about What It Could All Mean but it’s quite likely that there’s a healthy number of Swifties engaging in exactly this kind of what they consider to be fun.

As many culture analysts have pointed out, this is how Taylor Swift remains active without action. It’s entirely possible that she’ll take an extended break and not release any new music for another year, maybe longer. But as long as the fans keep hoping and speculating about it, as she’s trained them to do, it’ll seem like she’s present on the timeline.

But even before we talk about a new album, we could still be talking about the most recent one, The Life of a Showgirl. Because this is the eligibility year for Showgirl and Taylor’s always been a Grammy hunter. Showgirl for sure will contend in multiple categories, including all the big categories. And on top of that, “I Knew It, I Knew You” from Toy Story 5 is contending at the Oscars. She’ll be aiming to win an Oscar and a Grammy in the same year. While also promoting a new album? Does it dilute the impact of the work that’s in consideration for awards or would it help?

We haven't Squawked Taylor in a minute – let's do it!
