{"id":39896,"date":"2026-08-17T14:28:30","date_gmt":"2026-08-17T14:28:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/futureknowledge.in\/?p=39896"},"modified":"2026-08-17T14:28:30","modified_gmt":"2026-08-17T14:28:30","slug":"council-to-fork-out-410k-to-buy-building-that-houses-its-archives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/futureknowledge.in\/?p=39896","title":{"rendered":"Council to fork out \u00a3410k to buy building that houses its archives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>East Ayrshire Council has paid \u00a3410,000 to acquire a Kilmarnock building which houses part of its archive.<\/p>\n<p>The purchase of the property in Holmquarry Road was among a series of property acquisitions and disposals completed by the council between July 2025 and June this year.<\/p>\n<p>A report to the Governance and Scrutiny Committee says buying the archive building will secure its long-term use and avoid the council having to continue paying rent.<\/p>\n<p>The \u00a3410,000 deal was one of the authority\u2019s General Services property transactions during the period.<\/p>\n<p>At the other end of the scale, the council acquired a derelict former factory at Jamieson Drive in Darvel for just \u00a31.<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of Glasgow City Council staff face pay cut under new equal pay deal<\/p>\n<p>Could Scotland finally have an answer to the housing crisis?<\/p>\n<p>Fresh hope for future of 130-year-old historic Glasgow landmark<\/p>\n<p>The former Loudoun Valley Manufacturing Company site had suffered significant fire damage and vandalism over a number of years.<\/p>\n<p>Its acquisition allows the council to carry out demolition of the dangerous building, with the cleared site potentially being transferred to a community organisation for redevelopment.<\/p>\n<p>The authority also completed a number of property sales.<\/p>\n<p>The former Galston Primary School was sold for \u00a3102,000, generating income for the council while removing its responsibility for maintaining the property.<\/p>\n<p>Galston Library was transferred for \u00a314,000 through the council\u2019s community asset transfer process.<\/p>\n<p>Another property at 77 Townhead Street in Cumnock was sold for \u00a37,500.<\/p>\n<p>The transactions are examples of the ways\u00a0 the council can\u00a0 dispose of buildings and land it no longer requires as well as acquiring property where there is a strong enough argument to do so.<\/p>\n<p><em>Source: <a href='https:\/\/www.heraldscotland.com\/news\/26470816.council-fork-410k-buy-building-houses-archives\/?ref=rss' target='_blank'>Read the original article on www.heraldscotland.com<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>East Ayrshire Council has paid \u00a3410,000 to acquire a Kilmarnock building which houses part of its archive.
