{"id":38501,"date":"2026-08-16T23:57:58","date_gmt":"2026-08-16T23:57:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/futureknowledge.in\/?p=38501"},"modified":"2026-08-16T23:57:58","modified_gmt":"2026-08-16T23:57:58","slug":"summer-jobs-bounce-back-in-uk-thanks-to-busy-calendar-of-sport-and-music","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/futureknowledge.in\/?p=38501","title":{"rendered":"Summer jobs bounce back in UK thanks to busy calendar of sport and music"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Industry tracker finds \u2018exceptionally warm weather\u2019 has helped boost job listings in hospitality and tourism sector<\/p>\n<p>The summer job has staged a comeback this year thanks to the hot weather and a packed calendar of events such as the men\u2019s football World Cup, new UK figures show.<\/p>\n<p>Recent months have seen a significant increase in seasonal hiring in sectors such as hospitality and tourism compared with summer 2025, said the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), which runs a monthly labour market tracker.<\/p>\n<p>It said that this time last year \u201cthere was concern about the death of the great British summer job\u201d, but added: \u201cThis is the summer when the seasonal summer jobs market started to come back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExceptionally warm weather and a busy calendar of sporting, music and cultural events \u2026 has helped boost demand for workers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A dip in postings for summer jobs last year fuelled concerns that squeezed employers would continue to cut back on seasonal hiring, which has traditionally given young people their first experience of the world of work.<\/p>\n<p>However, this year there has been a double-digit rise in hospitality and tourism job advertisements over the summer period.<\/p>\n<p>But there was a slight dip in the number of active job postings and new job postings in July this year when compared with the previous month.<\/p>\n<p>Maxine Bligh, the REC\u2019s chief membership and innovation officer, said: \u201cIt is not totally straightforward for young people to earn wages just yet, with many entry-level jobs still not bouncing back as much as we would like.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut there are undoubtedly more opportunities across hospitality, tourism and construction than last year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added that \u201cthe prospect of an Indian summer in much of the UK may mean many of these opportunities last longer than usual\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>There were just under 1.67m active job postings in the UK in July this year, which is up 7.7% on a year earlier but a 2.6% drop from June.<\/p>\n<p><em>Source: <a href='https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/business\/2026\/aug\/17\/summer-jobs-bounce-back-in-uk-thanks-to-busy-calendar-of-sport-and-music' target='_blank'>Read the original article on www.theguardian.com<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Industry tracker finds \u2018exceptionally warm weather\u2019 has helped boost job listings in hospitality and tourism sector The summer job has staged a comeback this year thanks to the hot weather and a packed calendar of events such as the men\u2019s football World Cup, new UK figures show.
