A Universal Studios tease at D23? It\u2019s like a Disney Channel crossover episode but for theme parks. At\u00a0The Simpsons\u00a0panel on Friday, a fan asked showrunner Matt Selman whether they\u2019ve ever considered including the Treehouse of Horror in Universal Studios\u2019 Halloween Horror Nights, and to everyone\u2019s surprise, he said some spooks might be coming to Springfield, USA. \u201cI can\u2019t announce it officially, but I am going to say it out loud that we are going to begin the process of Treehouse of Horror-ing the Universal experience, probably first with food and experience later,\u201d Selman said as the crowd oh\u2019ed and aw\u2019ed at possibly witnessing the first Universal Studios experience being announced at D23. \u201cIf I\u2019m not supposed to announce it, I apologize. Ask for permission, not forgiveness. Oh, no wait! Ask for forgiveness, not permission.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ever since Disney bought Fox back in 2017, theme park heads have wondered what\u2019s going to happen to the Simpsons area at Universal Studios Hollywood and Florida. Disney has its own theme parks, so why would it renew\u00a0Universal\u2019s The Simpsons licensing deal when it allegedly expires in 2028? It would be easier to let Universal keep the property until it finds space in one of its parks to bring Springfield to Disneyland. \u201cI would personally be shocked if The Simpsons did not continue at Universal,\u201d Selmen told Entertainment Weekly in 2025. \u201cI don\u2019t have any inside information, so I\u2019m just a fan. This is not an official announcement. I\u2019m not party to those negotiations.\u201d There is a parks presentation later today, so maybe it\u2019ll be the perfect time to bring Homer to Disney Parks.<\/p>\n
