\u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day\u201d led the box office again on Friday despite competition from Anne Hathaway and a horde of hungry dinosaurs.<\/p>\n
The Warner Bros. sci-fi thriller \u201cThe End of Oak Street\u201d landed in second place on opening day with $8.1 million from 3,446 North American theaters. Rivals estimate the film will earn about $18.7 million domestically by Sunday. That\u2019s a soft start since \u201cOak Street\u201d cost more than $80 million to produce. Reviews (84% on Rotten Tomatoes) and word-of-mouth (\u201dB\u201d grade on CinemaScore exit polls) have been positive, so there is a chance \u201cOak Street\u201d sticks around in theaters and justifies its price tag.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt Follows\u201d filmmaker David Robert Mitchell wrote and directed \u201cThe End of Oak Street,\u201d which chronicles a suburban family whose neighborhood is suddenly blipped to prehistoric times. Hathaway stars alongside Ewan McGregor, Maisy Stella, Christian Convery and Jordan Alexa Davis.<\/p>\n
This weekend\u2019s other major newcomer, \u201cPAW Patrol: The Dino Movie,\u201d took third after earning $7.35 million on Friday from 3,545 North American cinemas. The animated family adventure should dig up about $20 million for Paramount through the weekend. That projection aligns with its predecessor, \u201cThe Mighty Movie,\u201d which opened with $22 million and grossed $205 million by the end of its run.<\/p>\n
\u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day\u201d still reigned supreme with $19 million domestically on Friday. Through its third weekend, the Marvel-Sony tentpole is targeting $67 million, which represents about a 53% decline from last week\u2019s numbers. That would push \u201cBrand New Day\u2019s\u201d North American revenues to roughly $783 million.<\/p>\n
Christopher Nolan\u2019s \u201cThe Odyssey\u201d is still holding strong at No. 4 through its fifth weekend. The Greek epic added $6.5 million domestically on Friday and is expected to pull in $23 million through the weekend. That would put the film\u2019s North American haul at $504 million.<\/p>\n
Finally, in fifth was \u201cKatseye: Wild Hearts.\u201d The documentary, which offers a behind-the-scenes look at the global girl group, made an estimated $2.2 million on Friday from just 724 theaters. By Sunday, it\u2019s expected to gross about $3.8 million.<\/p>\n
