{"id":34514,"date":"2026-08-15T03:05:13","date_gmt":"2026-08-15T03:05:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/futureknowledge.in\/?p=34514"},"modified":"2026-08-15T03:05:13","modified_gmt":"2026-08-15T03:05:13","slug":"kus-special-cell-concludes-10-day-deafhood-workshop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/futureknowledge.in\/?p=34514","title":{"rendered":"KU&#039;s Special Cell concludes 10-day deafhood workshop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Srinagar, Aug 14: The Special Cell under the aegis of the Department of Students\u2019 Welfare (DSW), University of Kashmir (KU), concluded a 10-day workshop on Deafhood themed &#039;HEAR A MILLION&#039; at the Main Campus.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop was organised from August 4 to 14, in collaboration with the Voluntary Medicare Society (VMS) and EnAble India.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop was aimed at empowering students with hearing disabilities by providing them a platform to showcase their talents, creativity, leadership and resilience. It brought together specially-abled students, University volunteers, faculty members, disability experts, sign language interpreters and representatives of civil society organisations to promote awareness about deaf culture, Indian sign language, accessibility and the rights of persons with disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the valedictory session, Vice-Chancellor, KU Prof. Nilofer Khan, said that creating an inclusive educational environment is a collective responsibility and that every student must be provided equal opportunities to learn, participate and realise their potential.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn inclusive university is one where every student feels heard, valued and empowered. Such events are important in creating greater awareness about deaf culture and accessibility,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Dean DSW KU, Prof. Seema Singh, said that the workshop reflected the University\u2019s commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive campus environment.<\/p>\n<p>Vice-President, Voluntary Medicare Society, Prof. Masooda Yasin, said that empowering persons with disabilities requires moving beyond awareness towards meaningful participation and equal opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>The programme featured interactive sessions, motivational talks, recreational activities, talent exhibitions and skill-development workshops designed to foster confidence, self-expression and meaningful participation among students with hearing disabilities. The sessions also focused on deaf culture, Indian sign language, accessibility, disability rights, communication and leadership skills.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop provided an opportunity for around 50 participants, including specially-abled students, University volunteers, faculty members and invited experts from EnAble India and VMS, to engage in learning, interaction and collaborative activities.
