This means, at the time of writing, it is the second highest-selling Switch 2 game, behind Mario Kart World (15.39 million) but ahead of Donkey Kong Bananza (4.78 million) – which launched in July last year.

Incredibly, this means 21% of the Switch 2’s 23.68 million install base has bought the title, which is an incredibly high attach rate even for a new console.

It’s even more impressive considering Pokémon Pokopia was barely on anyone’s radar in the run up to launch, so this suggests it’s doing very well as a result of word of mouth and critical acclaim. It also practically confirms a sequel will be on the way at some point.

Just recently, it was claimed the next mainline Pokémon games, Winds and Waves, will see two new directors replace Scarlet and Violet’s Shigeru Ohmori, who co-directed Pokopia. So it’s possible Ohmori has switched his attention to the spin-off’s future.

Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Two more DLC drops are planned as part of the Expansion Pass, slated for late 2026 and an unspecified time next year.

Elsewhere in the Pokémon world, Nintendo has announced Pokémon Bank will shut down its servers on February 25, 2027 at 7pm PST in the US. A UK time hasn’t been announced, but this translates to February 26 at 2am GMT.

Pokémon Bank launched on the Nintendo 3DS as an application that allowed players to deposit or withdraw pokémon via online boxes. It was only compatible with Pokémon games on the DS and 3DS, including Black and White, Black and White 2, X and Y, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, and Sun and Moon.

The launch of Pokémon Home, an app designed to replace Pokémon Bank for Switch, iOS and Android, along with the shut down of the 3DS eShop in 2023, made this announcement inevitable. If anything it’s surprising it hasn’t happened already.

For anyone who still has pokémon stored in Pokémon Bank, you’re advised to move them to Pokémon Home, otherwise they’ll cease to exist after February 25, 2027.

The main downside is, if you want to move your critters from Pokémon Bank to Pokémon Home, you’ll have to fork out for a premium subscription (£2.69 for one month). A free basic plan is available on the app, but it has limited features and storage.

To sweeten the bad news, Nintendo has announced the Switch ports of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen will get Pokémon Home support from October 2026. This will allow players to transfer Pokémon caught in those games to the service, and send them to other titles.

To submit Inbox letters and Reader’s Features more easily, without the need to send an email, just use our Submit Stuff page here.

Source: Read the original article on metro.co.uk

Nintendo has revealed that Pokémon Pokopia has hit five million copies sold, as it becomes the second highest-selling Switch 2 game.
