It looks like we've got another massive Pok\u00e9mon-flavoured hit on our hands. Nintendo and The Pok\u00e9mon Company have confirmed that Pok\u00e9mon Pokopia has sold more than five million units globally – a pretty impressive number given the game has been out for "just over four months". These sales include both physical and digital editions of the game.<\/p>\n
We know that, as of May 2026 at least, Nintendo has sold over 20m Switch 2 units. A bit of napkin maths suggests, then, that one in four Nintendo Switch 2 users now owns a copy of Pok\u00e9mon Pokopia – not bad going for a spin-off series from the folks that made Dragon Quest Builders. We're still relatively early on in the console's lifespan (it only launched on 5th June, 2025), but this certainly establishes Pokopia as one of the most important games on the system.<\/p>\n
Pok\u00e9mon Legends: Z-A has a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, for instance, and that has sold 3.99m units, according to Nintendo's reporting. Granted, its sales on the original Switch likely bump that over Pokopia, but as far as Switch 2 software is concerned, this third-party title beats even a first-party Pok\u00e9mon game on the system. In fact, Pokopia is so popular, only Mario Kart World has it beaten in terms of sales – that has an eye-watering 15.39m sales, meaning that three in every four Nintendo Switch 2 owners also has a copy of the game.<\/p>\n
Recent sales have likely been bolstered by the first release from the Pok\u00e9mon Pokopia Expansion Pass, which has been made available as paid downloadable content this week. "Part 1: Bubbly Basin" is available now and features an underwater town with more Pok\u00e9mon to discover, new furniture to build, new food to prepare, and more.<\/p>\n
The game is part-published by both Nintendo and Koei Tecmo, who recently noted it wants to decrease its "dependence on major titles" in the future by "prioritizing portfolio balance" with ports, remasters, and a few smaller projects aimed at loyal communities that perhaps aren't as mainstream. It seems, if Pokopia was a part of that gambit, it's already paying off for the Japanese company.<\/p>\n
