Actor, 59, reflects on high-profile marriages in Vogue interview, saying she felt \u2018deeply vulnerable\u2019 after split from Urban<\/p>\n
Nicole Kidman has opened up about her divorce from Keith Urban and reflected on her marriage to Tom Cruise, saying she was warned being his wife would overshadow her career.<\/p>\n
In a new interview with Vogue, the 59-year-old actor spoke about going through two divorces under intense media scrutiny: with Cruise, who she married in 1990 and divorced in 2001, and musician Urban, who she married in 2006.<\/p>\n
Kidman filed for divorce from Urban in September 2025 citing marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences, with the separation finalised out of court by January.<\/p>\n
Kidman said her second divorce had been a difficult period in her life, adding: \u201cBut at the same time I\u2019m like, \u2018OK, I didn\u2019t expect this. I had a different view of what my life was going to be, but this is what it is now.\u2019 You make all these plans and you have all these ideas of what it\u2019s all going to be like and then it\u2019s \u2026 not. You have to adjust. You adapt. The future, it\u2019s completely unknown to me right now.\u201d<\/p>\n
Asked if it had also been a \u201cscary\u201d time, Kidman said: \u201cThere was a point where I was very fearful and deeply vulnerable, which is exposing. And then at the same time [I\u2019m] going: \u2018Well, I can either really not confront it and just curl up, or I can just go forward with an enormous amount of hope.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Asked if her split from Cruise had been \u201cuseful\u201d for weathering the scrutiny around her second divorce, Kidman said: \u201cIt\u2019s all new. Every time!\u201d<\/p>\n
Of her marriage to Cruise, who she married when she was 23 and he was 28, she said, \u201cSuddenly I was 22, 23 years old and I had this huge movie star husband. But it just seemed completely natural. We just fell madly in love and it was that simple. I remember people saying to me, \u2018OK, well this is really going to affect your career\u2019. I\u2019m like, \u2018I don\u2019t care. I\u2019m in love. I want to be married.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd then I was his wife and they were like, \u2018See, we told you.\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018So what? I wasn\u2019t meant to marry the man I love? Of course I\u2019ll throw my career away. I don\u2019t care.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
In the Vogue interview, Kidman also revealed she sometimes goes dancing in disguise, saying: \u201cI\u2019ll put on glasses. Sometimes I\u2019ll wear a wig to hide, a little dark wig, and then I can just dance. As long as I\u2019m surrounded by people \u2013 like, I take people with me \u2013 then I\u2019m fine. I need it.\u201d<\/p>\n
