{"id":3059,"date":"2026-08-03T03:37:38","date_gmt":"2026-08-03T03:37:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/futureknowledge.in\/?p=3059"},"modified":"2026-08-03T03:37:38","modified_gmt":"2026-08-03T03:37:38","slug":"ea-cracks-down-on-modders-selling-their-custom-sims-4-content","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/futureknowledge.in\/?p=3059","title":{"rendered":"EA cracks down on modders selling their custom Sims 4 content"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last month, EA <a href=\"https:\/\/help.ea.com\/en-gb\/help\/the-sims\/the-sims-4\/mods-and-the-sims-4-game-updates\/#policy\">published an update<\/a> formalizing its policy that mods for <em>The Sims 4<\/em> &#8220;cannot be sold, licensed, or rented for a fee.&#8221; But the publisher tells Ars that there is still one important exception that should ensure many <em>Sims<\/em> modders can continue to make significant income from their game-expanding creations.<\/p>\n<p>EA&#8217;s new modding policy, <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20220730220848\/https:\/\/help.ea.com\/en-gb\/help\/the-sims\/the-sims-4\/mods-and-the-sims-4-game-updates\/\">first published July 21<\/a>, is pretty direct in saying that <em>Sims 4<\/em> mods &#8220;must be non-commercial and distributed free-of-charge&#8221; and that they can&#8217;t &#8220;contain features that would support monetary transactions of any type.&#8221; According to the published policy, those who want to monetize their <em>Sims<\/em> modding work are limited to indirect methods like &#8220;passive advertisements and requests for donations&#8221; on their own websites (but not within the mods themselves).<\/p>\n<p>Despite this recent formalization, this policy isn&#8217;t entirely new.
