Guwahati: Gauhati University on Wednesday welcomed its new batch of postgraduate students at a Central Orientation Programme held to familiarise them with the university\u2019s academic environment and responsibilities.<\/p>\n
Vice-Chancellor Nani Gopal Mahanta urged the students to look beyond marks and develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, practical knowledge and creativity.<\/p>\n
\u201cMarks are important in the present times, but it is the ability to think, solve problems, apply practical knowledge and uphold values that ultimately shapes a student\u2019s future,\u201d Mahanta said.<\/p>\n
Mahanta also urged the students to remain connected to the heritage and history of Gauhati University while embracing new knowledge, technology and emerging opportunities.<\/p>\n
Hiren Ch. Nath, IPS (Rtd.), Special ADGP (SB), Assam, spoke about the importance of self-confidence, perseverance and a sense of responsibility. He encouraged the students to approach their academic journey with discipline and purpose.<\/p>\n
Assam Gaurav Award recipient and entrepreneur Anupam Deka spoke about the importance of skills, innovation and entrepreneurship. He encouraged students to upgrade their skills, recognise their strengths and explore opportunities for innovation and self-reliance.<\/p>\n
Registrar Utpal Sarma, Academic Registrar Rajib Handique, Secretary of University Classes Ranjan Kumar Kakati, deans of various faculties, faculty members, parents and newly admitted postgraduate students attended the programme.<\/p>\n
