GUWAHATI, Aug 12: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday predicted the likelihood of thunderstorm and lightning with heavy to very heavy rain and gusty winds in the next two to three days at isolated places in Guwahati city, along with the adjacent areas of Kamrup Metro district.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe weather pattern suggests that thunderstorm and lightning with few spells of light to moderate rainfall (up to 6 cm in 24 hours) with isolated heavy (7-11 cm in 24 hours) rainfall is very likely over Guwahati city and the neighbourhood in the coming two to three days, which may aggravate water logging, slow vehicular movement, and increase the risk of localised landslides in vulnerable pockets,\u201d the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said in a statement issued here.<\/p>\n
The Kamrup Metro district authority and ASDMA are closely monitoring the situation and emergency response systems are being kept on alert.<\/p>\n
In view of the situation, ASDMA urged residents of Guwahati city to take necessary precautions and remain vigilant.<\/p>\n
\u201cDaily commuters and long-distance travellers are requested to plan their routines accordingly, avoiding unnecessary movement during periods of intense rainfall. Residents in low-lying and hillside areas should stay alert for any signs of flooding or landslides. The status of the situation will be updated by ASDMA on its official website,\u00a0https:\/\/asdma.assam.gov.in\/resource\/assam-weather-forecast, and on all its social media handles from time to time for general awareness,\u201d the ASDMA said.<\/p>\n
