Much of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation <\/a>remains a mystery, though fans are hoping that the social media activity of a Japanese icon who featured in some of the JRPG’s spin-offs is teasing some big plans.<\/p>\n

Over on Instagram<\/a> lately, Japanese musician Gackt has posted an image of himself cosplaying as Genesis Rhapsodos, for whom he provides the inspiration and Japanese voice in the Final Fantasy 7 spin-off games Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus. What’s more, the song playing in the background of the post appears in Dirge of Cerberus.<\/p>\n

The cheeky social media is interesting for a few reasons, though there are some caveats. Gackt’s connection to Final Fantasy 7 has been there for a long time, and it’s something he often posts about. Looking at his Instagram page, he often posts old clips and performances \u2013 some of which include himself dressed up as Genesis. There have been a few times over the years that supposed teases lead to little.<\/p>\n

However! Sometimes they do lead to something. As one fan on Twitter notes<\/a>, just days before the Crisis Core remake was announced, Gackt posted about returning to a studio he hadn’t visited in “over ten years” for some voice recording. Hm!<\/p>\n

Either way, fans are speculating<\/a> with excitement<\/a>. Dirge of Cerberus is yet to get a remake, sure, though something else to consider is the timing, as fans wonder if Genesis might appear as a boss fight<\/a> in the Remake trilogy’s grand finale. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation boss Naoki Hamaguchi has spoken a few times recently about how the spin-off games and Advent Children film tie into the grand finale, and did so recently at Final Fantasy 14’s Berlin Fan Fest.<\/p>\n

“I see a great deal of that discussion,” he said at the time to YouTuber Ashif\u2019s Release Notes<\/a>. “I’ve seen a lot of people discussing and speculating off the back of interviews with myself and with Kitase-san, ‘Is the ending of this going to connect to Advent Children?’<\/p>\n

“But it’s not a question. I don’t want to sit here and say it connects to this, it connects to that. But obviously, there are a lot of other titles within the VII universe. So, we’re talking about Advent Children, we’re talking about Dirge of Cerberus, Crisis Core. And we want to bring all of those in and make sure we’re not leaving those out.”<\/p>\n

Hamaguchi goes on to say that “once we have all of those in place, we’re looking towards the ending.” The question the developers are theoretically asking themselves is “what kind of ending are we going to head for in Revelation that still has those ties?”<\/p>\n

Naturally, you’ll have to wait for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation to release next year to truly find out, though Gackt’s social media activity isn’t making the wait any easier.<\/p>\n
