She\u2019s hosted The One Show for 16 years, but Alex Jones has revealed that she still feels \u201cguilt\u201d over the subsequent lack of \u201cbalance\u201d the show has given her life.<\/p>\n
The Welsh presenter joined the BBC\u2019s weekday evening show in 2010 as she took over from Northern Irish presenter Christine Lampard.<\/p>\n
Jones, 49, has hosted ever since, but made a surprising admission about her role in a new interview ahead of the show\u2019s 20th anniversary.<\/p>\n
\u201cPresenting The One Show is my dream job. I still can\u2019t believe how lucky I am,\u201d she told The Daily Mirror.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut something always has to give. I always have mum guilt.\u201d<\/p>\n
With husband of 10 years, New Zealander Charlie Thomson, Jones is parent to three children: Teddy, nine, Kit, seven, and Annie, four.<\/p>\n
Speaking about her struggle juggling parenting duties with work, the 49-year-old explained that presenting the flagship BBC programme meant that she was not home in the evenings for her kids.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t do bedtime, but I do take my children to school in the morning,\u201d she said, adding that her three children were often still awake when she returned anyway.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey never sleep through the night,\u201d Jones revealed, adding: \u201cIf I\u2019m honest, they come looking for me. I said to Annie, \u2018Darling, you need to start sleeping in your own bed,\u2019 even though I love it when she hops in next to me.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe said, \u2018Mama, I haven\u2019t seen you and you haven\u2019t picked me up from school. I won\u2019t see you until tomorrow.\u2019 It\u2019s clever, she got me! If that\u2019s where we are at this stage, who cares? The years go by so fast and I don\u2019t want to rush their childhood. So what if we\u2019re all in the same bed?\u201d<\/p>\n
Jones said that she still felt like she was \u201cpaddling away furiously under the surface\u201d, adding: \u201cBut then, everyone is. Everyone has worries and commitments and something that makes their life less straightforward. I don\u2019t think we\u2019ve cracked it and sometimes I feel like the balance is all wrong. But I do try my best.\u201d<\/p>\n
Raised in South Wales, Jones first appeared on TV as a contestant on the Sky reality TV show Prickly Heat before working as a researcher. She began presenting aged 21, having previously felt that such a job was out of reach for her as a girl from Carmarthenshire.<\/p>\n
