The Strokes\u00a0brought out surprise guest\u00a0Charli XCX\u00a0to perform \u201cTake It or Leave It\u201d during the band\u2019s headlining set Saturday at the\u00a0Outside Lands\u00a0festival.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe got a special little guest. A big guest. A superstar,\u201d Julian Casablancas told the crowd before alluding to the fact that both artists released new albums \u2014 the Strokes\u2019\u00a0Reality Awaits, Charli\u2019s\u00a0Music, Fashion, Film\u00a0\u2014 on the same day in July.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had a great battle. Congratulations, you defeated us in the album sales. You\u2019re new queen of everything, Charli XCX.\u201d The group and the singer \u2014 who headlined the previous night at the San Francisco fest \u2014 then launched into the\u00a0Is This It?\u00a0closer:<\/p>\n
\u201cCharli motherfucking XCX,\u201d Casablancas said after the surprise performance, circling back to their sales battle. \u201cYep, she won. She won by a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n
Casablancas and Charli XCX previously collaborated when he joined her on a reworking of \u201cMean Girls\u201d for her remix album\u00a0Brat and It\u2019s Completely Different but Also Still Brat.<\/p>\n
Charli is next scheduled to headline the U.K.\u2019s Reading and Leeds festivals, while the Strokes will jet off to Japan next weekend for the Summer Sonic festivals in Tokyo and Osaka.<\/p>\n
