Former first minister Nicola Sturgeon has claimed Harry Potter author JK Rowling is \u201cobsessed\u201d with her.<\/p>\n
Ms Sturgeon made the comments during an appearance at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, just a day after the author\u2019s most recent criticism.<\/p>\n
In a post on X, Ms Rowling described the former SNP leader as a \u201cworld-class misogynist\u201d and \u201cprofoundly disloyal\u201d to her party following criticism of its election campaign in a new foreword for her book.<\/p>\n
Asked by broadcaster Iain Dale if she wanted an \u201camnesty\u201d with the Harry Potter author, Ms Sturgeon said she was not \u201cat war\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe seems to be at war with me,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo if we\u2019re going to get an amnesty, I think it\u2019s probably going to have to come from her.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Rowling has been an outspoken critic of the former first minister, particularly on gender issues \u2013 which have become a hot-button issue in Scotland since Ms Sturgeon\u2019s attempt to reform gender recognition laws in 2022.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe disagree on more than one thing \u2013 we disagree about independence, we clearly disagree on trans rights,\u201d Ms Sturgeon said.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy god, that woman is obsessed with me.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t spend as much time thinking about her as she does thinking about me.\u201d<\/p>\n
The former first minister also hit out at Joanna Cherry KC \u2013 the former SNP MP who has been one of her most vociferous critics.<\/p>\n
Ms Sturgeon described the former MP\u2019s book, which was heavily critical of her time as SNP leader and first minister and was published earlier this year, as \u201cshit\u201d.<\/p>\n
Ms Cherry \u201cseems to have an obsession with me that is not reciprocated\u201d, she said when asked if there was a question she would like to put to the former MP when she appears in a later edition of the show.<\/p>\n
