{"id":1903,"date":"2026-08-03T03:19:45","date_gmt":"2026-08-03T03:19:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/futureknowledge.in\/?p=1903"},"modified":"2026-08-03T03:19:45","modified_gmt":"2026-08-03T03:19:45","slug":"tezpur-on-edge-as-brahmaputra-erosion-threatens-historic-tal-kalibari-locality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/futureknowledge.in\/?p=1903","title":{"rendered":"Tezpur on edge as Brahmaputra erosion threatens historic Tal Kalibari locality"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assamtribune.com\/h-upload\/2026\/08\/02\/1792465-copy-of-watermarking-resizing.webp\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>Tezpur, Aug 2:&nbsp;<\/b>Even as Assam continues to focus on rehabilitating flood-affected families across several Upper Assam districts, fresh concerns have emerged in Sonitpur after severe erosion along the Brahmaputra River triggered panic in Tezpur&#8217;s historic Tal Kalibari area.<\/p>\n<p>Rapidly rising water levels washed away large stretches of the riverbank on Saturday, threatening a historically significant locality and alarming residents as powerful currents continued to eat into the land.\n<\/p>\n<p>According to local residents, the river began swelling on Saturday afternoon, with the situation deteriorating sharply by evening.<\/p>\n<div class=\"hocal-draggable\">\n<div style=\"text-align: center\"><video controls=\"controls\" class=\"hocal-uploaded-video vid-width \" preload=\"auto\"><\/video><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The intensified flow caused extensive erosion, submerging several trees and patches of vegetation while raising fears among people living close to the river.<\/p>\n<p>Residents, many of whom have lived through repeated floods and erosion over the years, described the latest episode as unprecedented.\n<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Floods and erosion are natural phenomena in this area, but this time the situation is frightening and unprecedented.
