John Hughes had been considering a The Breakfast Club sequel, claims Anthony Michael Hall.<\/p>\n
The actor, who played 'the brain' Brian Johnson in the iconic 1985 coming-of-age movie, has revealed the late filmmaker had discussed a follow-up with him.<\/p>\n
"The last time I spoke to Mr. Hughes, he called me with John Candy on the phone," Hall recalled during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show.<\/p>\n
"It was about 1988, and we just hung out on the phone for a couple hours, and he talked about it at that time."<\/p>\n
Hall formed a close bond with Hughes after the pair worked on a series of films including The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles and Weird Science.<\/p>\n
As Hall continued to discuss Hughes' dream to revisit The Breakfast Club – which also starred Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez, Ally Sheedy and Judd Nelson – he mused on a possible storyline for the sequel.<\/p>\n
"It was something that was on his mind, the idea of bringing back The Breakfast Club," Hall shared.<\/p>\n
"Like, those five characters reunited somehow later in their life and they're in the workforce and they're in their 30s. I mean, it's a long time ago. So I think that it was something he was playing with. I don't know if he had written it or not."<\/p>\n
Elsewhere in the interview, Hall recalled working on Weird Science with Hughes.<\/p>\n
The 58-year-old actor revealed the late director came up with the idea for the 1985 film – which also starred Kelly LeBrock, Ilan Mitchell-Smith, Bill Paxton and Robert Downey Jr. – while working on The Breakfast Club.<\/p>\n
"Even when we were doing Breakfast Club, he came to me about a couple weeks in. He goes, 'I just came up with another idea for our next film'," Hall explained.<\/p>\n
"He goes, 'It's going to be you and this other kid. You're going to create a girl in the computer.' I'm like, 'What?'"<\/p>\n
Weird Science, which was written and directed by Hughes, followed two high school nerds who use a computer program to create the perfect woman.<\/p>\n
Hughes died aged 59 from a heart attack in August 2009.<\/p>\n
