The Government of Canada has announced a $10 million investment in order to build two new EV manufacturing facilities.<\/p>\n
The investment, made through the Strategic Response Fund, will go to Hanon Systems, a company that specializes in thermal management for EVs and Hybrid vehicles, to support the construction of a manufacturing plant for vapour-injected electric compressors. Alongside this, the funding will also go towards a product development centre in Vaughan, Ontario.<\/p>\n
The project is expected to cost Hanon Systems $198.75 million, and the plant is expected to produce up to 1.5 million e-compressors per year by 2034. The development centre in Vaughan is expected to create around 300 jobs.<\/p>\n
Currently, Hanon Systems operates three facilities in Canada: two plants in Belleville (fluid transport) and one plant in Concord (electronics and fluid pressure), which together have a total headcount of 900 employees.<\/p>\n
This announcement comes months after Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the new automotive strategy, which introduced a new rebate and a $1.5 billion investment in the Canada Infrastructure Bank\u2019s Charging and Hydrogen Refuelling Infrastructure Initiative.<\/p>\n
