Judge Judy revealed her first reaction to son Adam Levy\u2014who she shares with her first husband Ronald Levy\u2014getting his own TV court show: "I wasn't ready to give it up."<\/p>\n
Judge Judy had objections to her family\u00a0following her footsteps into television.<\/p>\n
Before creating Adam's Law, a new daytime court show starring her son Adam Levy, the 83-year-old (real name Judy Sheindlin) wasn\u2019t on board with the idea of passing down the gavel after three decades of presiding cases on the small screen.\u00a0<\/p>\n
"I wouldn't have encouraged him to take on this role and responsibility 10 years ago, or even five years ago," Judy shared in an Aug. 6 trailer for Levy's courtroom series, premiering Sept. 14 on CBS, "because I wasn't ready to give it up."<\/p>\n
"Quite frankly, I think he has the talent to beat me," the longtime TV arbitrator continued with a laugh, "and I don't like the idea of that."<\/p>\n
But seeing how Adam, who she shares with ex Ronald Levy, "understands the law" by having previously served as a district attorney, Judy believes he's "got great TV eyes" to take on the mantel.<\/p>\n
"Well, they're my eyes," she quipped. "But I'm confident that he has that kind of entertaining personality that will endear him to the same viewing public that has embraced me for 30 years."<\/p>\n
Judy added, "I am handing this baton over to the right person."<\/p>\n
Indeed, Adam vows to employ the same type of no-nonsense approach to litigation that made his mom famous.<\/p>\n
"The best advice I would give to a litigant coming on Adam's Law is tell the truth," the 58-year-old said in his show's trailer. "When people make statements that are demonstrably false, that really bothers me."<\/p>\n
So, does this mean Judy is hanging up her robe and joining her husband Jerry Sheindlin in retirement? Not quite.<\/p>\n
"I\u2019m not tired," the Judy Justice star told The Hollywood Reporter in 2021. "I don\u2019t play golf or tennis. I have no desire to learn how to play mahjong, chess or checkers."<\/p>\n
"I know what I like to do," the mom of five continued. "Why, at my stage in life, would I try to find something else when I already know what I like?"<\/p>\n
