Updated on 03.09.2026 – The upcoming Bayon SUV from Hyundai has been performing extensive road tests in our market for a while now. The latest post from autonews_india on Instagram captures the details this time around. We see a sporty SUV wrapped in black camouflage while being driven in city traffic. Despite the covering, the silhouette screams of the new Bayon. Going by the visuals and comparing with the previous sightings, it is most likely that the SUV will bear a split LED lighting setup at the front with a sporty bumper. On the sides, we will witness elegant alloy wheels, functional roof rails and flared wheel arches. Note that the length of the SUV will be around 4.18 m.
The tail section could carry the familiar connected lighting configuration we have already seen on other Hyundai models. On the inside, the cabin will be loaded with the latest tech and amenities. These could include things like a dual-tone steering wheel with controls, two curved displays (driver’s instrument cluster and infotainment unit), and a modern layout. In terms of the specifications, the Bayon could carry the 1.5-litre NA petrol mill with a 6-speed manual or a CVT option. It could even be offered with the CNG mill. Also, there could also be a new 1.2-litre turbo petrol variant on sale. The expected price range is between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 15 lakh, ex-showroom. More details will stem in the coming weeks and the launch is slated for October 2026.

Updated on 22.06.2026 – The latest spy images of the soon-to-be-launched Hyundai Bayon capture it alongside the famed Maruti Victoris. We know that Hyundai has been testing the 4.18-m-long SUV in India for a while now. What is particularly interesting with the Bayon is its dimensions. It will sit between the Venue and Creta. Hence, customers looking for something bigger than the Venue without having to shell out a huge amount on the higher variants of the Creta would be the ideal candidates for the Bayon.
The spy shots clearly showcase that the Bayon is slightly smaller (even in terms of road presence) than the mid-size SUVs like the Maruti Victoris. However, that is to be expected. What matters is the additional size and space it will offer in comparison to the Venue and similar compact SUVs. In terms of styling, the Bayon will get a boxy stance, sturdy roof rails, new Hyundai design language, elegant alloy wheels, Venue-inspired LED DRLs, etc. More details will emerge in the coming days.

Currently, the Kia Syros, Maruti Fronx and Toyota Taisor are the go-to models in this niche category. This is a unique space between two already extremely popular segments. In the last few years, the number of cars in the compact and mid-size SUV categories has increased tremendously. This is due to the fact that SUVs inherently suit the needs of the Indian customers, as well as the traffic and road conditions prevailing in our country. People want cars with an imposing road presence, along with high ride height to ensure a comfortable ride over broken patches of road. Hence, the SUV body type is the hot space in India.
In the last few months, we have witnessed the spy images of the upcoming Bayon-based SUV. While not a lot of details have emerged from these media shots, we can safely assume that Hyundai is planning to launch something which will sit above the Venue and below the Creta in our market. Now, that is quite a crowded space already due to the existing price overlap between the Venue and Creta. Nevertheless, we have seen the kind of success Kia Syros has achieved despite having faced a similar situation with the Sonet and Seltos. Clearly, Hyundai has done its homework and would still target this niche segment.
The spy media had captured the heavily camouflaged test mule of the Bayon previously. The visuals showcased an upright stance, an SUV-ish silhouette, functional roof rails, boxy demeanour, distinct alloy wheel design inspired by Hyundai’s global electric products, an upright bonnet line and a rugged overall appearance. Note that the Bayon is already on sale in many parts of the world. Hence, we know that it carries the latest design philosophy from the Korean automobile giant. As a result, there is no reason to think that the Indian-spec model will not have that.
Apart from that, we know that Hyundai is known for offering among the most feature-laden products in every segment it operates in. That is what new-age customers want from their vehicles. Therefore, aspects like a large touchscreen infotainment display, a large digital instrument cluster for the driver, an ADAS active safety suite, wireless charging, smartphone connectivity, ambient lighting, a premium audio system, OTA updates, etc., will certainly be part of the package.
Talking about the powertrain options, the Bayon-based SUV could easily borrow powertrain and transmission alternatives from the Venue and Creta. Hence, we might see the naturally aspirated petrol, a turbo petrol or a turbo diesel engine with this vehicle. Furthermore, there have been reports about the introduction of a hybrid mill. However, until there is an official announcement, it will be difficult to predict. Moreover, the customers will get to choose between manual and automatic transmission options.
Even though this is a relatively niche market segment, cars like the Maruti Fronx, Toyota Taisor (which is the badge-engineered version of the Fronx) and Kia Syros have gained decent popularity. Therefore, it makes sense for Hyundai to test its hand in this space. We know that the Korean car marque understands the desires and mindset of Indian customers well. With its decades of experience and expertise in India, it knows how to cater to new customers even in a relatively new segment. We know that Hyundai created the premium hatchback space back in 2008 with the i20. Clearly, it knows a thing or two about entering new segments and dominating them.
This category is ideal for a distinct set of potential customers. Those who want something a bit more premium than the Venue, while not spending too much on a Creta, will find this space inviting. Even though official details elude us at the moment, we can rest assured that the Bayon-based crossover will have the latest tech and convenience features, the latest design philosophy from Hyundai and a slew of powertrain and transmission options to make things exciting.
