The Mercedes-Benz GLE has found a new way to offer more comfort in China. At the 2026 Chengdu Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz showcased the GLE L, a longer version of its popular SUV. The extra length is mainly seen between the wheels, giving passengers in the second row more room.
The GLE L is made in China and gets a 3,115mm wheelbase. That is 120mm more than the regular GLE. The SUV measures 5,051mm in length, 2,018mm in width and 1,784mm in height.
Mercedes-Benz has added a new feature called Boss Mode. It moves the front passenger seat forward by tilting it by 10.91 degrees. This leaves more space for the person sitting behind it.
The feature comes from the Maybach GLS. The rear cabin also gets new entertainment screens and extra comfort features.
The GLE L is available in two versions called 350 L 4Matic and 450 L 4Matic. Both use petrol engines with 48V mild hybrid assistance.
Both engines use a 9 speed automatic gearbox and send power to all four wheels through Mercedes-Benz 4Matic.
There are no major styling surprises here. The GLE L gets the same basic design seen on the regular model. The grille has a gloss black finish with chrome detailing, while the headlights feature Mercedes star shaped DRLs.
The SUV also gets wraparound tail-lights, black trim at the rear and dual exhaust outlets. New alloy wheels help set the longer model apart.
The cabin has three 12.3 inch screens covering the driver display, central infotainment system and front passenger screen. A three spoke steering wheel with touch controls is also part of the package.
Mercedes-Benz has not confirmed an Indian launch for the GLE L. The company already sells long wheelbase E-Class and V-Class models here. The BMW X5 is also expected to arrive in a long wheelbase version in India in 2027.
For now, the GLE L stays focused on the Chinese market. Its extra rear space and new comfort features make it a more passenger friendly version of the GLE.
