For years, the Range Rover has been known for its size, comfort and ability to go places where many luxury SUVs would hesitate. Now, the famous SUV has taken a major step into the electric age. The first-ever fully electric Range Rover has been revealed, and bookings have opened in India on the same day. The new SUV brings twin electric motors, a large 118.5kWh battery and a claimed range of up to 600km. It is not just about going electric either. Range Rover has worked on keeping the SUV comfortable on the road and capable on rough surfaces.
Exterior design keeps the Range Rover look
The electric version does not get a completely new body design. It carries the familiar Range Rover shape, so it still looks large and premium.

The front has a closed-style grille designed around the electric powertrain. The side view continues with the long and upright SUV shape. At the rear, the design is clean and simple, with no exhaust outlets.
The SUV will also be sold in two wheelbase options, giving buyers more choice depending on their requirements.
The main mechanical change is under the body. The Range Rover Electric uses two permanent-magnet electric motors with all-wheel drive.
The battery uses a double-stack layout with 344 prismatic cells. Range Rover says the SUV can go from 0-100kmph in 4.5 seconds.
The large battery can take DC charging at up to 350kW. On a suitable charger, a 10-80 per cent charge can take around 22 minutes. A short charging stop can also be useful. Range Rover claims that around 220km of WLTP range can be added in 10 minutes. The 800V system helps the SUV handle high charging speeds.
Electric power has not taken away the Range Rover’s off-road character. The SUV can wade through water up to 900mm deep. It also gets new systems to manage traction.
The traction system can control motor speed within 50 milliseconds. Single Pedal mode can also help during steep climbs, with Range Rover claiming the ability to handle slopes of up to 45 degrees.

Bookings for the Range Rover Electric have now started in India. The booking amount is reported to be Rs 10 lakh. Customers can choose from several versions:
