The judge in Lindsay Clancy's murder trial declared a mistrial Friday, after her attorney's last-minute appeal to remove a juror and start deliberations again with a replacement failed. The hung jury could not reach a verdict in Plymouth Superior Court in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
Lindsay Clancy arrived back at Tewksbury State Hospital just before 5 p.m. on Friday, hours after a judge declared a mistrial in her murder trial.
The hospital is where she has spent most of the time since the killings of her three children. She was transported there by a sheriff's department van.
Clancy will remain in custody at Tewksbury State Hospital, north of Boston, under psychiatric care. She's paralyzed and in a wheelchair after jumping out of a window the night her children were killed.
Lindsay Clancy's ex-husband, Patrick Clancy, was the first person to testify in her trial.
He released this brief statement on the mistrial through his attorney David Meier Friday afternoon:
"Patrick Clancy is grateful to the Court and to the jurors for their hard work, their commitment, and their perseverance. The loss of Patrick's children is something from which he will never recover and from which there will never be closure. The prospect of reliving this tragedy through another trial is extraordinarily painful — for Patrick, for his family, and for all us."
Patrick Clancy was the first person to find the children the night they were killed. The couple later divorced and he remarried.

When asked how Lindsay Clancy was doing after the mistrial was declared, her attorney Kevin Reddington told reporters, "not good."
He had the same answer when asked about her parents who were in court throughout the trial.
WBZ-TV's Kristina Rex was in the courtroom when the trial officially ended.
"No huge emotions out of Lindsay Clancy. No huge emotions out of her family," Rex said. "Kind of stale, honestly."
If Plymouth District Attorney Tim Cruz decides to go ahead with a re-trial, Reddington said Lindsay Clancy will be prepared.
