A recall of frozen fruit from July that sickened more than a dozen people has been expanded to include another product sold in additional states.

Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A., San Carlos, Chile, is adding one lot of 10-ounce Great Value frozen Organic Triple Berry Blend to its July recall because of potential contamination with E.coli.

The product was shipped to select Walmart stores in 16 states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas and Wisconsin.

The lot code of the product is 6040 01-6 and the berries have a best if used by date of February 9, 2028.

The original recall from July 3 included 10-ounce bags of Frozen GreenWise Organic IQF Blueberries shipped to Publix stores in eight states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

Later that month, Publix issued a recall of all lots of GreenWise Organic Frozen Whole Blueberries and Whole Mixed Berries, including 10- and 48-ounce bags.

All of the products also have best by dates of February 9, 2028.

According to the FDA, based on data collected by the CDC and Florida Department of Health, a total of 17 people have been infected with the outbreak strain of E.coli across two states – Georgia and Florida.

The fear of contamination is over E.coli O145:H28, a potentially deadly strain of the bacteria that is more likely to cause bloody diarrhea and more severe symptoms (stock image)
