Be careful what you (don’t) wish for: We’re a little less than a week out from the release of Practical Magic 2, but Sandra Bullock told Vanity Fair that the success of this legacyquel could portend yet another adventure for the Owens family. “We’ll do a number three if this takes off, and we’ll pass the torch to the girls,” she said. By “we,” Bullock of course means herself and Nicole Kidman, with whom she starred in the original Practical Magic back in 1998, an experience she called “such a horrific experience for us” not because of the shooting but due to the film’s largely negative consensus. The girls are Joey King and Maisie Williams, who play Kylie and Antonia Owens, the daughters of Bullock’s Sally Owens. King and Williams come with their own franchise bona fides, the former having anchored The Kissing Booth films and the latter kicking ass for nearly a decade on Game of Thrones. If there’s any reliable duo to trust female-forward IP with, it’s definitely these two. But if there’s going to be a third Practical Magic, it’s hard to imagine it without Bullock and Kidman. Even for a bit part! A cameo! A walk-on! A FaceTime convo midway through. They can pass the torch to the new generation, but it’s the old generation that keeps it lit.
