IT, FMCG and auto shares declined while realty, media and private bank shares advanced.

As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex declined 417.49 points or 0.55% to 76,152.86. The Nifty 50 index added 41 points or 0.17% to 23,873.45. in the four consecutive trading sessions, the Sensex and the Nifty declined 1.44% and 1.25%, repectively.

In the broader market, the BSE 150 MidCap Index added 0.15% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index rose 1.01%.

The market breadth was positive. On the BSE, 2,552 shares rose and 1,769 shares fell. A total of 230 shares were unchanged.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Wednesday said forex inflows under its special USD-INR forex swap facility stood at $136.38 billion as of 31 August 2026, according to provisional data reported by authorised dealer banks.

The inflows included $127.23 billion through Foreign Currency Non-Resident (Bank) [FCNR(B)] deposits, while overseas foreign currency borrowings (OFCBs) contributed $5.26 billion and external commercial borrowings (ECBs) accounted for $3.89 billion.

Services activity expanded at a faster pace in August, although the rate of growth remained the second-slowest since March 2022. The seasonally adjusted HSBC India Services PMI Business Activity Index, which measures changes in business activity compared with the previous month, rose to 54.1 in August from 53.3 in July. However, the index remained slightly below its long-run average of 54.5.

The acceleration in services activity offset a slowdown in manufacturing growth, resulting in the overall pace of private sector expansion remaining unchanged in August. The HSBC India Composite PMI Output Index stood at 54.3 in August, the same level as recorded in July.

Shares of Lumino Industries were at Rs 111.50 on the BSE, representing a premium of 35.98% as compared with the issue price of Rs 82.

The stock debuted at Rs 109 on the BSE, a premium of 32.93% over its issue price.

The stock has hit a high of Rs 119 and a low of Rs 106.48. On the BSE, over 1.59 crore shares of the company were traded in the counter.

Tech Mahindra (down 1.65%), HCL Technologies (down 1.37%), LTM (down 1.02%), Mphasis (down 0.81%), Persistent Systems (down 0.69%), Infosys (down 0.66%), Tata Consultancy Services (down 0.6%), Oracle Financial Services Software (down 0.37%) and Wipro (down 0.29%) declined.
