IMD Heavy Rain Alert: Monsoon has once again become very violent across the country. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), while issuing the latest weather bulletin for August 5, has issued an alert of heavy to extremely heavy rain, thunderstorm and lightning in more than two dozen states and union territories of the country. In North India, from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and hilly states to Assam and Meghalaya in the North-East, the weather pattern is going to be very bad.
According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, moderate to torrential rainfall will be recorded in about 25 states of the country. Serious warnings of stormy winds and lightning have also been issued in many areas.
Red alert in Assam and Meghalaya: crisis due to extremely heavy rains
According to the bulletin of the Meteorological Department, the most severe form of rain can be seen in the north-eastern states of Assam and Meghalaya today. A red alert has been issued for heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places as well as extremely heavy rainfall in some areas. Due to torrential rains in these states, there is a serious fear of waterlogging, flood-like conditions in low-lying areas and landslides on hill slopes.
Warning of very heavy rain in 8 states including UP, Bihar, Uttarakhand
The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of torrential and heavy to very heavy rain at different places in 8 major states of the country. The maximum impact of monsoon will be seen in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Many districts of both the states will experience torrential rains accompanied by thunder and lightning. There will be a danger of landslides due to heavy to very heavy rains in the hilly state of Uttarakhand.
Very heavy rainfall is also forecast over sub-Himalayan areas of West Bengal and Sikkim. Very heavy rainfall has been predicted in the eastern Indian coastal state of Odisha amid fast movement of clouds. It has been advised to be cautious regarding extremely heavy rains in the mountainous and coastal areas of Konkan and Goa and Central Maharashtra in Western India. There is a possibility of very heavy rain at many places in Arunachal Pradesh also.
Heavy rain in these states including Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal
An alert of heavy rain has been issued at different places in more than 16 states and union territories of the country. Rainfall will continue in Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh.
There is a possibility of moderate to heavy rain in different parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. There are chances of heavy rain in areas of Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Heavy rain has been warned in Kerala and Mahe, Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka. Heavy rain will be recorded in areas of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Alert of stormy winds, thunderstorm and lightning
Along with rain, the Meteorological Department has also issued detailed warnings regarding strong storms, thunderstorms and hurricane winds across the country. There is a strong possibility of gale force winds with a speed of 50 to 60 km per hour in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Winds will blow at a speed of 40-50 km/hr with strong lightning and thunder over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Mahe, North Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal and Telangana.
Winds can blow at a speed of 30 to 40 km/hr in Bihar, Coastal Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, South Interior Karnataka and West Bengal and Sikkim. An alert of lightning and thunder has been issued in the areas of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, East Rajasthan, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, Uttarakhand and Vidarbha. Strong surface winds are expected during the day over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe and Telangana.
