When The Snoop broke the news that the ABC would be rolling out Anthropic’s Claude AI assistant across the organisation (accompanied by a significantly less transparent version of its AI policy), the national broadcaster did not respond to our questions about the value of any agreement it had with the AI company. So, we fired off an FOI request to the broadcaster, which has been refused.
The decision made by the ABC’s head of technology legal found that any documents detailing how much the ABC has spent on AI contracts, including with Anthropic:
“[If] made available to competitors via the FOI process … would lose its value to both the third party and the ABC.
