Xbox CEO Asha Sharma in an interview with BBC News revealed the next-generation Xbox, codenamed Project Helix, is a "family of devices."

This suggests there will be multiple consoles like with the current generation with the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles.

She was asked on whether Project Helix would be a discless console and she replied, "We're not sharing more on Helix, I know you had to ask it. But look, we've been hard at work on a great next generation and a great family of devices for Helix, and we'll share more soon."

Sharma has previously stated the video game industry "needs to start to innovate on affordability and efficiency. That is something that we have not had to do [previously]. But with the crisis that's currently happening in hardware and components, it is absolutely something all of us need to be thinking about and innovating on and giving people more choice in terms of how they play their console and how they purchase their console."

The cost of storage and memory have skyrocketed causing Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony to increase the price of their video game consoles.

It's a family of Windows PCs, if that wasn't clear yet.

I don't understand why Xbox doesn't just partner up with a PC brand or two, have Xbox branding on the "tower"/laptop, include an Xbox controller, include 3 months or even a year of Game Pass Ultimate, and call it a day.
Basically, very similar to what they are doing with the ROG Handheld but one of the biggest differences being including an Xbox controller.

Another X/S with an H or M (handheld (hybrid) or mobile) would really be great next gen if they do a better job of balancing the hardware of each model this time around.
I'd be much more inclined to pick up a Helix S console instead of a PS6 handheld hybrid.

The should probably sell a drive separately ala Sony. Otherwise it adds an unnecessary barrier to the digital to disc program.

They will lauch a console with disc drive ( probably premium "something" X version like this current gen) and they will sell their games with code in the box. Microsoft style.

I still believe MS will make one because their hardcore base would only buy one if it had the MS/Xbox badge on it, we all know this. The rest will made by Asus or whoever else.

Which means yes, it'll be discless. But that has always been expected.

It being a family of hardware was not tho, we had rumors about a portable Xbox just like a portable Playstation, but it has been a while since the portable Xbox one was said to be canned, since around the partnership with Asus for the Rog Ally.

Is it because Helix is a PC so people will obviously be able to upgrade at least some parts and that constitutes a family of hardware?

After "This is an Xbox", I've been expecting a family of hardware. Personally I'm more interested in how the disc thing is going to play out. Most sorts of hardware will probably be missing a disc drive, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was at least some hardware that had a disc drive (for games, to be clear). But regardless, the direction is clear: discs are going out, and digital is the future.
