On Tuesday, Sept. 1, at about 2:25 p.m. CDT, Tropical Storm Edouard smashed ashore on the northern Gulf coast, near the Texas-Louisiana border, with 60 mph maximum sustained winds.

According to the National Hurricane Center, it made landfall near Johnson Bayou, Louisiana.

Heavy rain is forecast to hit parts of the Upper Texas coast through east-central Texas into far Southwest Louisiana Sept. 1 through Sept. 2.

Johnson Bayou is a small, unincorporated community on a barrier island on the Gulf Coast in Cameron Parish, Louisiana. It's about 28 miles from Port Arthur, Texas.

Johnson Bayou has had more than its share of tropical weather. The "Great Storm of 1886" utterly destroyed the area and killed between 50 and 100 people with storm surge, according to the NHC. Over the years, it's been hit by Hurricane Audrey in 1957, and Hurricane Rita in 2005, and it was soaked with rainfall but nearby landfalls by Hurricane Humberto in 2007 and Hurricane Ike in 2008.

In 2020, Johnson Bayou was hit by two hurricanes, Laura and Delta.

No. Tropical Storm Edouard is almost 400 miles west of Pensacola and came ashore near the Texas-Lousiana border.
