Scott McTominay is set to miss Scotland's upcoming international fixtures as he undergoes surgery on a minor heart issue.

The midfielder is set for a short absence due to "a mild benign arrhythmia", Napoli confirmed on Tuesday, with a corrective measure planned for his abnormal or irregular heart rhythm.

The heart issue is deemed non-serious and posing no significant risk to overall health, but will sideline McTominay for a few weeks.

Scotland begin life under new manager Sebastien Pocognoli with four Nations League fixtures against Slovenia (twice), Switzerland and North Macedonia in an extended international window that begins in September.

McTominay has started both of Napoli's Serie A matches this season, though was substituted after 56 minutes of a 2-1 home defeat by Como at the weekend. He will miss their Champions League opener against Arsenal next week.

The 29-year-old has won 73 caps for Scotland and was part of Steve Clarke's squad at the World Cup. Billy Gilmour, a teammate of McTominay for club and country, has been back in action for the Italian club in recent weeks after missing the tournament with injury.
