Porsche is preparing to expand its electric vehicle line-up in India with the Cayenne Electric, which is scheduled to make its market debut on September 30. The electric SUV will become the German manufacturer’s third EV in India, joining the Taycan and Macan.
Although the formal launch is still some time away, Porsche has already listed prices for the two versions of the Cayenne Electric. The standard model is priced at Rs. 1.77 crore, while the range-topping Cayenne Turbo Electric carries an ex-showroom price of Rs. 2.27 crores.
The Cayenne Electric will be offered in two performance configurations. The standard version produces 402.4 BHP and 835 Nm, with power supplied by a 113kWh battery.
Porsche claims a range of 643 km for this version. It can accelerate from 0-100 km/hr in 4.8 seconds and has a top speed of 230 km/hr.
Charging capability includes support for up to 22kW on AC and 390kW using a compatible DC fast charger. Porsche claims that the battery can be replenished from 10 to 80 percent in around 16 minutes under suitable DC charging conditions.
The Cayenne Turbo Electric uses the same 113kWh battery but gets a substantially more powerful drivetrain. It develops 844.2 BHP and 1500 Nm, with a claimed range of 624 km.
Performance is correspondingly stronger, with Porsche quoting a 0-100 km/hr time of 2.5 seconds with launch control. The Turbo Electric has a claimed maximum speed of 260 km/hr.
One of the more notable features of the Cayenne Electric is its compatibility with wireless charging. The system can deliver up to 11kW and works by positioning the vehicle over a dedicated charging plate.
Wireless charging is designed to reduce the need for physically connecting the vehicle to a charger, although the required hardware and installation will determine its practicality for individual owners.
The electric Cayenne gets a technology-focused interior, including a 14.25-inch curved central display. The design incorporates Porsche’s latest digital interface, with widgets providing access to frequently used functions.
An optional 14.9-inch display for the front passenger is also available. The infotainment system supports third-party applications through the Porsche App Centre.
Other technology features include an AI-assisted voice system for navigation and an augmented-reality head-up display, which projects relevant information into the driver’s field of view.
The SUV also supports Porsche Digital Key functionality. Compatible smartphones and smartwatches can be used to lock and unlock the vehicle, while digital access can be shared with up to seven additional devices.
The Cayenne Electric will join Porsche’s existing electric models in India, giving the brand an EV offering across different vehicle segments.
The Taycan currently represents Porsche’s electric sports car offering, while the Macan Electric caters to buyers looking for an electric luxury SUV. The Cayenne Electric will sit higher in the SUV hierarchy and is expected to combine the Cayenne’s established nameplate with the performance and charging capabilities of Porsche’s latest EV technology.
