The mother of a newborn baby found dead in a Sydney rubbish bin is being urged to seek immediate medical care.
Emergency services were called after the infant boy’s body was discovered on Harrow Rd at Auburn in the city’s southwest about 11.20am local time today, ABC News reported.

Superintendent of the Auburn Police Area Command Darren Sly told media this afternoon that NSW Police’s “number one concern” is identifying the mother and ensuring she received treatment.
“If there was to be any police action, that is not our priority whatsoever … our only priority at the moment is for the welfare of the mother and that she goes immediately to hospital.”
Sly said the baby had been found by a local woman in a bin located on private property.
“It’s very traumatic for that particular lady who found that baby.
“It’s a newborn baby who now has passed away and, of course,it’s sad and a horrific set of circumstances.”
It is not yet known how long the baby was inside the bin, but Sly said police believed it could be up to 36 hours.
The area has been cordoned off while officers investigate the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death, Nine News reported.
Police are appealing for information that could assist with their inquiries, including dashcam or mobile phone footage.
Local grocery store owner El Houda Mahmoud Houda told news.com.au he had heard police sirens earlier this morning.
“Because I’m just down the road, I sort of walked into the middle of the street and I can see police cars pulling in.”
He said his children attended a nearby school, prompting him to call the school to ask whether there was an issue.
“They just said they don’t know what’s going on, they just have some police in their office.”
Houda said he later drove towards the area and asked an officer whether the school was safe.
