The Washington Commanders finalized their initial 53-man roster on Sunday, and it will change. Washington's initial roster featured only three cornerbacks, with Trey Amos beginning the season on injured reserve. That will change this week when the Commanders re-sign Fabian Moreau after placing Laremy Tunsil and Johnny Newton on IR.
Washington also kept 10 offensive linemen and seven wide receivers. While the receiver position appears set, the offensive line will see more changes. So, it's no surprise that going into the 2026 season, cornerback and offensive line are the Commanders' top concerns.
Beginning on Monday, all 32 NFL teams can assemble their 16-man practice squads. Teams with a player in the International Player Pathway Program receive an exemption and can have 17 players.

Teams can sign 16 players to the practice squad; six can be veterans with unlimited NFL experience. The other 10 spots must go to players with two accrued NFL seasons or less.
Each team can elevate up to two practice squad players to the active roster on gameday each week. After the game, the player reverts to the practice squad.
Players can be elevated up to three times in a single season without actually being signed to the 53-man roster.
