Infosys Public Services CEO Lax Gopisetty is currently unreachable after devastating floods struck Nepal, where he was visiting in a personal capacity, the IT services company said on Friday.
The floods, which have caused widespread destruction across parts of Nepal and the Nepal-Tibet border region, have killed hundreds of people and left thousands unaccounted for. The latest figures from Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority put the death toll at 626, with 2,426 people still unaccounted for. More than 4,400 people have been rescued so far.
In a statement, Infosys said its immediate priority was Gopisetty’s safety and wellbeing, and that it was working with the relevant agencies to gather information and establish contact with him.
“We can confirm that our colleague Lax Gopisetty, who was visiting the region in a personal capacity, is currently not reachable,” Infosys said.
The company added that it remained in close communication with Gopisetty’s family and was providing all necessary support in the situation.
“We remain in close communication with the family and are providing all necessary support during this difficult time. Our thoughts are with Lax and all those affected by this tragedy,” the company said.
Gopisetty is the CEO of Infosys Public Services, a subsidiary of Bengaluru-headquartered Infosys that focuses primarily on public-sector clients in the US and Canada. According to his profile, he oversees the company’s strategy and execution and advises public-sector organisations on technology, operations and transformation.
Infosys said it was “deeply saddened” by the loss of life caused by the floods and expressed its thoughts for Gopisetty and everyone affected by the disaster.
