A 56-year-old man was taken to hospital in a critical condition after his car collided with a marked police car and another car.
At around 2.40pm on Friday, the man’s Seat Mii crashed into the police vehicle and a BYD Dolphin on the A76 at Mauchline, East Ayrshire.
The driver was taken by air ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow, where staff have described his condition as critical.
The BYD driver and two police officers involved did not require medical treatment.
Sergeant Gordon Stewart said: “I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the crash to contact us with any information.
“If anyone has dash-cam footage, please check it as it could have captured images which could assist our inquiries.”
