The partner of a chemistry teacher facing prison over sexual contact with two former pupils has been accused of threatening a detective who worked on her case.

Darren Scotchbrook sent threatening and abusive emails to Detective Sergeant Terry Mulcahy, St Albans Magistrates' Court heard in July.

The messages were alleged to have been sent just weeks before Scotchbrook gave evidence in support of Sally-Anne Bowen, his partner of almost 40 years, at her trial, during which he spoke intimately about their sex life before the jury.

But despite his efforts to help get her cleared, disgraced Bowen, 65, was today found guilty of having sex with one 14-year-old pupil up to 30 times and of kissing another teenage boy and allowing him to fondle her sexually.

With Bowen now facing prison, the allegations against her long-term partner Scotchbrook can be reported for the first time.

Scotchbrook, who is eight years her junior and whom she met when he was 20, is accused of racially aggravated harassment, having allegedly sent the lead investigating officer in the case, Detective Sergeant Terry Mulcahy, numerous threatening emails at the end of July.

In so doing he also is accused of showing 'hostility' towards Pakistani people. He is facing a separate trial involving allegations of harassment involving four victims, which is also linked to the case.

Scotchbrook, with whom Bowen has a 24-year-old daughter, is expected to appear in court next month over the allegations, with a trial expected this year or in early 2027.

Disgraced former chemistry teacher Sally-Anne Bowen, 65, was convicted this week of having sex with one of her pupils up to 30 times – and kissing another when she taught at Christ's College in Finchley, north London, when they were aged 14 and 15 in the late 1980s

Bowen's partner of 36 years, Darren Scotchbrook, eight years her junior and whom she met when he was 20, is accused of threatening the detective who worked her case

Bowen denied the claims, stelling the court that she had a low libido and suffered a congenital gynaecological condition that meant she found sex painful and didn't enjoy having it

Bowen's trial at Harrow Crown Court heard how she had dressed in a sexually risqué manner and acted provocatively as if she was in a Sabrina Carpenter music video while she taught chemistry at Christ's College in Finchley, north London, between 1986 and 1988.

Then 25, and in her first teaching job, she would also often stray away from chemistry in class and engage in conversations about sex.

On the final day of evidence for the defence, Scotchbrook, who met Bowen in 1990, gave evidence for the defence in which he spoke about their sex life, saying that his partner was often 'reluctant' and that the sex was always 'quick'.
