Emmerdale fans prepare to say goodbye to Monty Dingle(Image: ITV)
Emmerdale fans have been left in tears as the Dingles make a heartbreaking decision for fan favourite Monty, as his final scenes air this week.
It's a heartbreaking week for the Dingle family as they prepare to say a final goodbye to Monty, with his last ever episode airing tomorrow (August 5), following his devastating diagnosis.
The beloved family dog, Monty, made his first on-screen appearance in Emmerdale in 2018. He was introduced as a companion for the late Zak Dingle following the passing of the clan's previous Irish Wolfhound, Alfie.
In recent episodes, poor Monty found himself trapped in the shed that Kyle set alight, and Cain wasted no time rescuing him from the blaze. After taking him to the vets, the Dingles were sad to learn that there was something more sinister afoot.
Paddy called round, sadly confirming that Monty had a metastatic tumour, hence why his recovery from the smoke inhalation was taking longer than usual.
As Cain handed Monty treats and left his tough front behind to cuddle him, he said: "If there was anything I could do to make things better for you, you know I would, don't you? I would, you know, in a heartbeat."
Monty's final scenes air this week, and during Tuesday's (August 4) visit to the Dales, emotional scenes were aired as Cain decided to make a difficult decision.
After spending the night on the sofa not wanting Monty to be alone, Cain was insistent that he wouldn't write Monty off yet. However, later in the episode himself and Belle found Monty curled up next to Zak's grave.

Taking it as a sign that he was ready to go, Cain accepted that it's time to say goodbye. In tears, he explained everything to Isaac and Kyle, with the former struggling to understand that Monty would be gone forever.
Tomorrow will mark Monty's final goodbye, and it's set to be an emotional one both for the Dingles and the ITV viewers. Now, fans have taken to social media to express their heartbreak.
