A Latin Grammy-winning musician was detained at a Florida airport after a concert, as his wife makes an emotional plea for his release.
Cuban-born musician Degnis Nelson Bofill Miranda, 39, was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on August 19 at Miami International Airport after flying back from New York City, where he had performed.
Bofill, a percussionist and jazz artist, won a 2022 Latin Grammy for Best Folk Album 'Ancestros Sinfónico.'
After he was detained. the musician was transferred to the Krome Detention Center in Miami-Dade County.
The musician’s heartbroken wife, Mara Delgado, is now pleading for his release from the center, fearing he could be deported.
'I'm concerned about him getting deported, because I don't know when I will be able to see him again,' she told CBS News Miami.
Delgado said ICE agents were waiting for Bofill when he landed in Miami, recalling the ordeal as 'awful.'

'I started panicking, because with everything that's been going on, I knew it's always a possibility with us, immigrants,' Delgado told the outlet.
The pair met in Cuba and tied the knot in 2023 – the same year Bofill arrived in the US.
Delgado added that her husband has a pending asylum case and wants to continue it outside detention.
In a statement, ICE said the musician legally entered the US in April 2023 but later violated the terms of his admission.
'Degnis Nelson Bofill Miranda, an illegal alien from Cuba, was arrested by ICE in Miami on August 19 during an immigration enforcement operation,' an ICE spokesperson told the outlet.
