Rockstar Games will give the world its first look at official Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay
Rockstar Games is finally ready to show off Grand Theft Auto 6 in style. On Thursday, Rockstar will offer an "extended look" at GTA 6 in a Netflix timed exclusive showcase that, like much of the game, remains wrapped in mystery. Rockstar has only released two trailers for GTA 6 thus far, but a series of leaks has already given many Grand Theft Auto fans an unsanctioned look at the game. Whatever it is that Rockstar plans to show off via its Netflix presentation is bound to be much more polished and focused.
For the millions of fans waiting for a longer look at Grand Theft Auto 6, here's how to watch it — and whether it's worth subscribing to Netflix for an early look at the game.
"Grand Theft Auto 6: An Extended Look" will debut on Netflix on Thursday, Aug. 27 at 3 p.m. EDT. You can set a reminder at Netflix if you think you'll forget. Below, you can check how this looks in your time zone:
According to Netflix's app, "Grand Theft Auto 6: An Extended Look" will be 26 minutes long. Rockstar hasn't detailed what viewers can expect beyond "the next evolution of the groundbreaking Grand Theft Auto series." A new preview of the game, via Dazed, was released on Wednesday ahead of the Netflix special.
Your best option is to wait. The Netflix special is exclusive to the streaming platform for six hours. Rockstar Games plans to release the same footage on YouTube on Thursday at 9 p.m. EDT.
“Grand Theft Auto reveals have become cultural moments in their own right. The anticipation and fandom around Grand Theft Auto VI is unprecedented, and we’re honored that Rockstar Games has partnered with us to debut the next part of the Grand Theft Auto story with Netflix members first,” says Brandon Riegg, VP of nonfiction series at Netflix. “It’s a reflection of what we hope Netflix is becoming: a place where the most ambitious storytelling, from any medium, can find the biggest possible audience.”
Barring any further delays — and Rockstar finally seems very confident in the game's release date — Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released on Nov. 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Rockstar has not announced any other versions of the game.
