It will open with a film from Jesse Eisenberg, and end with the latest from Martin McDonagh

The end of summer is the beginning of film festival season here in Canada, and the Vancouver International Film Festival has announced the lineup for its 45th edition, running October 1 to 11.

The film will open with Jesse Eisenberg's latest film, The Debut, a comedy about community theatre starring Julianne Moore and Paul Giamatti. VIFF will close with Martin McDonagh's Wild Horse Nine, a black comedy about CIA agents (John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell) at the Chilean coup in 1973.

All told, VIFF will feature 162 features, 91 shorts and two episodic series, representing 76 nations. This includes three hyper-Canadian docs: Sean Menard's Run Terry Run, Matthew Rankin's Ladies and Gentlemen, Brian Mulroney and Adrian Buitenhuis's Man in Motion: The Rick Hansen Story.

VIFF Amp, a program forging connections between the film and music industries, will host Meg Remy (of U.S. Girls), Peter Peter (Heated Rivalry's composer), and Matthew Rogers (of the Harpoonist & the Axe Murderer). The VIFF Live program will present a concert from DEVO's Mark Mothersbaugh, highlighting his work as a film composer.
