Finite Films & TV Hopes Ezra England Sitcom ‘Nuclear Children’ Will Mushroom In Edinburgh

EXCLUSIVE: Finite Films & TV today is at the Edinburgh Television Festival today with a new six-part comedy series, Nuclear Children. 

Adapted from the debut play of writer Ezra England, the series is being co-developed with Platform Presents, which also co-produced the original stage production.

Nuclear Children follows 18-year-old Isla Sparrow who, after the death of her father in a submarine accident, hopes to escape her grieving family and flee to university. However, she fails her exams and finds herself trapped in her tiny, peculiar town hometown, determined to find a way out.

England’s play won the 2021 Platform Presents Playwriting Prize and ran at the 2023 Edinburgh Fringe. From 2024 to 2025, they were a resident artist at the Roundhouse, and as an actor their credits include Star Wars: Andor, Extraordinary and Unforgotten.

The plan is now to shop the series to broadcasters and streamers in town for the Edinburgh TV Festival or the Edinburgh Fringe, where shows such as Baby Reindeer were first identified.

For Finite, Nuclear Children joins a slate comprising original series and adaptations of plays, operas and literary texts. Platform Presents makes film, theatre and television, including Theatrical Consequences, The Joy of Text and Good Grief. Former ITV and Three Rivers Media exec Ben McGrath leads for the company Finite Films & TV. His EP crefits include Dead and Buried for BBC1 Northern Ireland and Virgin Media Television, in association with All3Media International. He also identified the IP for and executive story-produced an adaptation of Deon Meyer’s Trackers for HBO, ZDF and M-Net, and also co-created the British-Nordic crime thriller Reyna with Torfinnur Jákupsson (Trom).Finite’s founder, Amy Gardner, has producing credits on the likes of And Then Come the Nightjars, La Bohème, Honeytrap, and My House, and worked on the stage productions of Nuclear Children and The Joy of Text. Her EP credits inckude Felipe Gálvez Haberle’s The Settlers, Joshua Oppenheimer’s The End, Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor’s Dreamers, Konstantina Kotzamani’s Titanic Ocean and RuthyPribar’s What is to Come.
