Two Wight Tri athletes showcased their versatility in triathlon events despite unexpected challenges.

In Leeds, Paul Edwards adapted to a changed Ironman event after blue-green algae forced organisers to cancel the swim leg, transforming the event into a duathlon.

Edwards powered through a 112-mile bike ride in 6 hours 1 minute, battling rain, slick roads, and more than 8,000 ft of climbing.

He then completed the marathon in 3 hours 39 minutes 59 seconds, maintaining a strong pace despite fatigue and climbing temperatures.

Edwards crossed the finish line in a total time of 9 hours 46 minutes 31 seconds, before returning to the Isle of Wight the same evening.

Meanwhile, at the Oundle Sprint Triathlon in Northamptonshire, Chris Jackson also delivered a commendable performance.

The triathlon includes a 600-metre swim, a 25km bike ride, and a 5km run.

Jackson finished in 1 hour 41 minutes 49 seconds, securing 24th out of 47 women and second in her age category, just 19 seconds behind the winner.

She navigated the indoor pool swim confidently and enjoyed a trouble-free bike ride through the countryside.

A slightly cautious approach to her shoelaces might have cost her a few precious seconds during the run.
