Ballinamallard Reserves and Enniskillen Rangers played out a goalless draw at The Ball Range for the second time in two seasons, in a competitive encounter in which both sides had opportunities to claim all three points.

Ballinamallard manager Ally Irwin was pleased with the maturity his side showed to come away with a point, particularly given the nature of a game where neither team could complain had they conceded a late winner.

"We had one golden chance and a number of half chances, and the other way around Rangers had something similar," said Irwin.

"I think if either team had nicked a goal the other team would have felt hard done by, and when that is the feeling then you have to accept a draw probably was a fair result.

I felt the performance was more mature than it was last year.

It was the kind of game that we might have lost in the past.

If we weren't going to win the game, we weren't going to lose it either.

That's a big thing for us in our development, to be able to see out games without losing."

Rangers' manager Darren Higginbotham was similarly content with the outcome, believing the two sides had largely cancelled each other out.

"I don't think myself or Ally will be too disappointed," he said.

The defences were probably on top, but both teams had chances at times.

I think both teams cancelled each other out well – it was two teams trying to play good football.

It is one of those cases of taking the draw and moving on.

It is two clean sheets out of three and seven points from three games, so we will take that and move onto the next game.

The boys have given me everything in the first three games.
