Police are appealing for information following a fatal crash on the Isle of Lewis.

Around 4.40pm on Saturday, August 22, officers received a report of a crash involving a silver MG and a black BMW S1000 RS motorcycle on the A857 Ness to Stornoway road near to New Park, Newmarket.

Emergency services attended and the 56-year-old male rider was taken to Western Isles Hospital where he died. His family are aware.

Police said the 44-year-old male driver of the silver MG has been arrested in connection with the crash and enquiries are ongoing.

The road was closed to allow enquiries to be carried out and reopened around 5am on Sunday, August 23.

Police Sergeant Scott MacDonald said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died as a result of this crash.

“Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or the vehicles prior to contact us.

“I would also ask anyone who was in the area and may have dash cam footage that could assist to get in touch.”
