The Goal Zero Yeti 3000X portable power station has been recalled because the circuit board can overheat, which can potentially cause fires, according to an announcement from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Thankfully, the fix is a firmware update.

The 92-pound power station, which retails for $3,000, is used to provide portable and backup power on worksites, while camping, or at home. The power stations were sold at REI stores across the country and online at retailers like Costco, Back Country, and Goalzero.com, among others, from May 2020 through August 2025, according to the CPSC.

Goal Zero has received four reports of the product overheating, catching fire, and smoking, though there have been no reports of injuries. The problem can be fixed with a firmware update, but if consumers are unable to get that to work for some reason, they can request support from Goal Zero.

The company has published a YouTube video that explains how to update the firmware. About 46,000 units have been sold nationwide that require updating.

The firmware can be updated through the Goal Zero app, which can be downloaded at the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. The update can be found in Settings and Firmware Update. When installing the update, the Yeti 3000X should show progress on the machine’s display itself. After the firmware has been updated, it should display version 1.9.5.

The company warns that even if your unit appears to be working fine, it’s still important to update the firmware. The products were manufactured in China, though Goal Zero is based in Utah.

Customers with questions about the recall can call Goal Zero’s toll-free number at 888-794-6250, which is answered from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET Monday to Friday. The company’s email address is [email protected]. The online form for seeking support can be found at: https://recallsupport.goalzero.com/hc/en-us/requests/new.

Goal Zero previously recalled the Yeti 25A Fast Charge power supplies back in 2020 because they had the potential to overheat and cause fires. The company also recalled the EC8 Power Cables in 2021 over fire concerns and recalled its Yeti Link Expansion Modules and EC8 Cables in 2024 because they were overheating and melting. Goal Zero recalled its Solar Series Combiner cables in 2025, which also posed a fire hazard.
