Starting Friday, Aug. 21, Ottawa drivers can go a little faster, with speed limits jumping to 110 km/h on parts of Highways 416 and 417.

The new limit will apply to Highway 417 from the Highway 416/417 interchange west on Highway 7, as well as from Leitrim Road east to Highway 174.
It will also apply to Highway 416 from Fallowfield Road to just south of the Highway 416/417 interchange.

The changes taking effect Friday are the latest in a phased rollout that began in June, with another round scheduled for Aug. 31.
The province said most of Ontario’s freeway network was originally designed to safely accommodate a posted speed limit of 110 km/h. The province added that the broader expansion could shave nearly half an hour off a trip between Toronto and Ottawa.
