There's hardly any Indiana Fever game in which the physicality and officiating against Caitlin Clark aren't among the talking points. Thursday's game between the Fever and Dallas Wings was no exception. During the fourth quarter, Odyssey Sims took down Clark while chasing the Fever superstar off a screen.
At first glance, it seemed like a tackle. However, other angles suggested that Sims may have lost her footing. That incident could have been brutal for Clark, who fell knee-first on the hardwood. She even clutched her left leg for a moment before getting up and continuing to play.
Fever fans weren't impressed with Sims, who was with their team last year.
"Average WNBA defense on Caitlin Clark," one X user wrote.
The stars of Thursday's game between the Indiana Fever and Dallas Wings also got into it. Just before halftime, Paige Bueckers deliberately tried to foul Caitlin Clark as the Wings had a foul to give. Bueckers grabbed Clark's arms and the Fever star didn't like her counterpart's actions.
Clark swung her left arm to get Bueckers off of her. She also complained to the referee for not calling the foul earlier. As things got chippy, Bueckers told Clark to "calm down."
It was a frustrating night for Clark, who managed 10 points and nine assists and shot just 4-for-15. The Fever lost 91-85, ending their five-game winning streak despite coming into the game as favorites.
Unlike other games, Clark took just one trip to the free-throw line and missed her only attempt. She will hope to bounce back when the Fever visit New York on Saturday.
