After multiple teasers, camouflaged spy shots, and plenty of talk about its India launch, Kia India has officially showcased the India-spec Sorento. The three-row SUV has now been revealed ahead of its September 4 launch, and production has also started at Kia’s Anantapur plant.
The Sorento will sit above the Seltos and Syros in Kia’s Indian range. It will be the company’s new flagship ICE SUV and will bring a bigger cabin, more features and two different powertrain choices.
Kia has confirmed two engine choices for India. Buyers will get a strong hybrid petrol setup and a diesel engine.
The hybrid version will get an all wheel drive system. This makes the Sorento Kia’s first hybrid SUV with AWD in India. The diesel version will also add another option for buyers who prefer a conventional powertrain.
The Sorento has a large and upright shape with a design that gives it plenty of road presence. The front gets four projector units, a new grille and LED fog lights. It also gets contrast skid plates and air curtains on the bumper.
At the side, the SUV gets dual tone alloy wheels, black roof rails and chrome detailing. The rear has wraparound LED tail lamps, an integrated spoiler and a shark fin antenna.
Kia has packed the Sorento with several features for family use. The cabin gets a beige and black theme along with a curved display setup.
One of the biggest highlights is the new Kia AI Assistant. The India spec Sorento will be the first Kia model globally to use Live Generative AI.
The system will allow occupants to have more natural voice conversations with the car. It can also provide information and help with selected vehicle functions.
Kia has already started production of the Sorento at its Anantapur facility. The first locally produced unit has rolled off the production line.
Pre bookings are open through Kia dealerships and the company website. The official launch is scheduled for September 4.
The Sorento is expected to sit above the Rs 30 lakh mark and will face SUVs such as the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron, MG Majestor and MG Gloster.
